If you change your name in order to deceive somebody or do so dishonestly then you could lay yourself open to criminal proceedings.
If you wish to change a child’s name, then providing they are under 16 years of age and those with parental responsibility consent to the change, it is also a simple process. It is possible to apply to the court for permission to change a child’s name if one parent objects. Permission will only be granted in exceptional circumstances.
