We regularly advise parents and grandparents in cases concerning the alleged abuse of children. Children can suffer harm in many ways through sexual ,physical and emotional abuse. The local authority (social services department) may take children into care. Children may also be accommodated. This is when children are looked after by the local authority with the consent of parents. You may be asked to attend a case conference in respect of your children. You are entitled to take someone with you and we will attend with you to advise you and support you. It is important that you involve us as early as possible as we may be able to help you avoid having your children removed.
All parents or people with parental responsibility (this usually means someone with a residence order) are entitled to non means tested (free) legal funding from the legal services commission in care proceedings.
